Bronx Science Fair Guidelines
- All grades will be judged. 1st, 2nd,
3rd place winners will receive medals and ribbons. Fourth – tenth
place winners only receive ribbons. All students receive certificates of
participation.
- Grades K-8: Individual or group experiments (groups
limited to 3 students). We strongly encourage group projects as a
cooperative learning experience.
- Children must come in school uniforms,
and have adult supervision (preferably school coordinator) for the duration
of the fair. However, adults must wait in the cafeteria until after judging.
- JUDGING IS BASED ON THE EXPERIMENTAL METHOD. IF
STUDENTS SUBMIT A RESEARCH REPORT OR MODEL (e.g., report on what a rain
forest is, or a model of circulatory system), they may decrease their
chances of winning.
- Please bring paper towels for spills, and garbage
bags. Nothing should be left behind. Anything left behind will be thrown
away.
- No vertebrate animals, living or dead, may be used as
part of an experiment.
- No sharp instruments (e.g., staple guns, hypodermic
needles) may be used.
- No projects that emit smoke or noxious fumes are
permitted.
- No matches, candles, or corrosive materials are
permitted.
- No electrical outlets are available. Students must
provide their own electric current.
- No display of ribbons won at prior events may be
attached to projects.
- NO VOLCANOES PERMITTED. (This is an all-time
favorite---we expect children to use the steps of the scientific method.) WE
ENCOURAGE PROJECTS THAT DEAL WITH THE URBAN SETTING.
- Project dimensions must fit specifications on enclosed
diagram----THE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT ANY PROJECT.
